Daily Living
Planning, preparing, scheduling, and anticipating something in the future is a part of all of our lives. There is always an event to get ready for, a trip to arrange, a meeting to set up, and an activity to look forward to. The future can also bring much anxiety and stress to our lives. A scary headline, an upcoming election, a big court hearing, and societal turmoil in the news can bring along so much dread for the future. One can easily get so consumed with the good, or bad of tomorrow that he misses out on what can be enjoyed today.
God tells us in Proverbs 27:1, “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” If we are not careful, we can get so overwhelmed by the future that we miss the opportunity that God has in front of us right now. Every morning when we wake up we get a special gift from God, another day. Psalm 118:24 say, ”This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
The hymn writer, Ira Stanphill put it perfectly when he wrote “I don't know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day. I don't borrow from its sunshine, For its skies may turn to grey. I don't worry o'er the future, For I know what Jesus said. And today I'll walk beside Him, For He knows what is ahead.” Never forget the importance of walking with God today.
