Stewardship: Managing God’s Resources
As Christians, we are called to be stewards of everything that God has given us. We are not owners, but rather caretakers of the gifts and resources that God has entrusted to us. This includes our time, money, words, relationships, and even the Gospel itself. Let us dive into these areas of stewardship and explore how we can better manage God’s resources.
Time
Our time is a precious and scarce resource that we should steward well. We must remember that time is not ours, but rather God's. He created time, and we are responsible to Him for how we spend it. As such, we should budget our time as carefully as we budget our money. We must make time for God, our families, ourselves, and serving others. We only have so much time, and once it is gone, we cannot get it back. Proverbs 27:1 reminds us, "Boast not thyself of to-morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth."
Money
All of our money belongs to God, and we are responsible for how we use 100% of it. We need to be wise stewards of all of our money, not just the 10% we give as a tithe. We should not act like we own our money, but rather see it as God’s money that He has entrusted to us. We should be generous with our resources and not let money control us. We need to remember that we are stewards, not owners. Luke 16:11 says, "If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?"
Words
Our words have tremendous power, and we must steward them well. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." We must be careful with what we say, how we say it, and who we say it to. Once we say something, we cannot take it back. We must make sure that our words are edifying and minister grace to those who hear them. We need to remember that our words steward our reputation. Proverbs 21:23 says, "Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles."
Relationships
Our relationships are also a precious resource that we must steward well. This includes our spouses, children, and other loved ones. We need to make time for our relationships and prioritize them over other things. We must love, honor, and respect our spouses, and we must train up our children in the way they should go. We must also steward our relationships with others by being kind, compassionate, and forgiving. We must seek to build up others and not tear them down.
The Gospel
Finally, we must steward the Gospel well. This means sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others and living out our faith in a way that honors Him. We must be faithful in sharing the Gospel and making disciples of all nations. We must also be faithful in living out our faith and being a light to the world. We must steward the Gospel as a precious and valuable resource that God has given us.
In conclusion,
stewardship is all about managing God's resources. We are caretakers of everything that God has given us, and we must be faithful in how we use these resources. We must remember that we are stewards, not owners, and that we are accountable to God for how we use His resources. Let us be faithful in stewarding our time, money, words, relationships, and the Gospel itself. As 1 Corinthians 4:2 says, "Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
